To Love

So many songs have been sung about love,

So many deeds have been done about love,

So many battles been lost and been won,

But what does it mean, what does it mean, what does it mean to love?

Though I speak in the tongues of men and of angels

But have not love…

I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal

And if I have prophetic powers understanding all knowledge

If I have all faith so I can move the great mountains

But have not love…

I am a hollow tree or an empty shell.

If I give away all that I have

And deliver my body to be burned

If I say my prayers and do everything that’s good

But have not love…

I am nothing at all.

1. To love is to give rather than take

to love is to live for your neighbour’s sake

to love is to see, to be fully alive

to love is to venture forth out of your hive

2. To love is to care what you do to another

To love is to bear all the weight of your brother

In sorrow, in agony, weakness and pain

To love is to sacrifice personal gain

3. To love is to open your heart to a stranger

To love is to risk your own life when in danger

To love is to willingly shed all your tears

To love is to wipe away all of your fears.
